The ascension of Mathewson comes after current publisher Ed Moss resigned for what he calls a "new business opportunity." His office wouldn't elaborate on that, but he will reveal the details once he begins his new position.
A lifelong Akron resident, Mathewson has spent 29 years at the paper. Up until yesterday, she oversaw all aspects of the printing and packaging. In 2006, Editor & Publisher Magazine called her one of the top production executives in the nation.
