Council Pledges Commitment to Stem Youth Violence

Cleveland City Council expresses compassion for 15-year-old Arthur Buford's grieving mother, but it also says she and the system as a whole failed him. Councilwoman Nina Turner says all of Cleveland government including it's schools bears responsibility.

Nina Turner: Certainly we need to step up. I don't know how many psychologists are in our schools or social workers but that is conversation that needs to be had. Even though there was a loss of life I think this is a awesome opportunity for us as a city to come together, with various skill sets from ministers to social service agency to the community and government to talk about how we can better help children in need. So the schools play a strong role helping to turn around our young people.

Turner says she hopes Cleveland City Council's recent curfew laws and ongoing hearings on parental responsibility are a step in the right direction. Lisa Ann Pinkerton, 90.3.
