Plum Wars: Image campaigns are nothing new in Northeast Ohio. In 1981, with Cleveland still reeling from the economic downturn of the late 1970s, the "Plum" campaign was created. The idea was to create a new image for the city by imitating New York's popular "Big Apple" nickname. But, this nom de Plum never took off. It did, however, inspire a parody.
