Goodyear workers at 16 North American plants walked out on October 5th, unhappy with the company's proposal to slash health and retirement benefits to stay competitive.
Tensions have escalated since Goodyear, based in Akron, decided to hire temporary workers to keep production lines running and shut down a plant in Texas.
On Saturday, United Steelworkers President Leo Gerard said the union is prepared to carry the strike at least into March, at which point it would ask for contributions from all union members to keep it going longer. Gerard appeared at a labor rally in Parma - one of about 150 staged at Goodyear retailers this weekend in the U.S. and Canada.
Goodyear spokesman Ed Markey said Friday the planned rallies would not interfere with plans to resume talks.
