The glittering disco ball circling above a crowd of blue-shirted Craig Foltin supporters was the only shining light for the Republican congressional candidate last night. Despite endorsements from the Akron Beacon Journal and the Plain Dealer, Foltin faced an uphill battle in the heavily left-leaning district. He raised only half as much money as Democrat Betty Sutton and then lost much-needed financial assistance from the Republican National Committee which decided to focus its energies on incumbent races instead. And a weak Republican gubernatorial candidate didn't improve Foltin's chances either.
Craig Foltin: Obviously, the top of the ticket didn't help me, but I'm not gonna blame that. We're proud of the race we ran.
Foltin encouraged the crowd to support the Congresswoman-elect and said he plans to work closely with her as he finishes his final year as Lorain mayor. Annie Wu, 90.3.
