Civic Leaders Support Issue 3

The strong local push for Issue 3, also known as the Learn and Earn Proposal, comes mainly from the promises of $75 million a year in economic development and advocates say taxes on the gambling would generate $850 million for a statewide college scholarship fund. Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones says that's the best reason to support issue 3.

Stephanie Tubbs Jones: One of the biggest problems we are facing in 2006 is that public education in Ohio is one of the highest in the nation. We need to find ways to fund education in Ohio.

Other supporters of Issue 3 include the Cuyahoga County Commissioners, the AFL-CIO and the Plain Dealer. But there are prominent opponents in the state too, including both candidates for governor, Ohio's Catholic Bishops and the Ohio State University Board of Trustees. Lisa Ann Pinkerton, 90.3.
