Recruiting Poll Workers at Colleges

At CSU, 280 students are planning to work at voting locations this November. CSU Administrator Abigail Horn, who has been involved in recruitment, says college students are an attractive group to tap because they often have more computer experience than retirees who traditionally serve as poll workers.

Abigail Horn: College students who have a flexible schedules and are comfortable working with the electronic voting machines is such a great pool of potential workers on election day.

CSU is part of a pilot program looking for the best ways to entice students to the job. It's Center for Election Integrity has found involving faculty helps as well as publicity about the pay. In Cuyahoga County the 14-hour day pays up to $172. Lisa Ann Pinkerton, 90.3.
