1727 premiere of George Frideric Handel's Coronation Anthems in London at Westminster Abbey during the coronation of King George II and Queen Caroline; one of the anthems, Zadok the Priest, has been sung at every subsequent British coronation, traditionally performed during the sovereign's anointing.

1811 Franz Liszt – Hungarian composer, virtuoso pianist, conductor, teacher and member of the Third Order of St. Francis (d.1886); probably the most technically advanced pianist of his age; in the 1840s considered by some the greatest pianist of all time; was a benefactor to other composers, including Richard Wagner, Hector Berlioz, Camille Saint-Saëns, Edvard Grieg and Alexander Borodin.

1881 first concert by the Boston Symphony; at the old Boston Music Hall, with George Herschel conducting; program included Beethoven's Consecration of the House Overture, and works by Gluck, Haydn, Schubert, Bruch and Weber; current Music Director Andris Nelsons began his tenure in 2013.

1987 premiere of John Adams's opera Nixon in China at Houston Grand Opera;  composer's first opera, inspired by U.S. President Richard Nixon's visit to China in 1972; The Chairman Dances (1985) by John Adams (commissioned by the Milwaukee Symphony) is described by the composer as an "out-take" from Nixon in China.

11:00 FROM THE TOP with Christopher O’Riley and America's finest young musicians - Highlights Episode featuring nearly twice as much music as From the Top's regular episodes, this highlights program celebrates some of the best performances by young people From the Top has presented over the past couple of seasons. An irresistibly charming 11-year-old violinist performs the music of Claude Debussy, a teenage soprano describes her charmed meeting with the great opera diva Renee Fleming, and we’ll hear one of the greatest young trumpet players we’ve ever had on the program perform Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.
