University of Akron President Matthew Wilson has been named a finalist to lead Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
Wilson announced in March he was stepping down from his role as president effective July 1, returning to a previous position in the university’s School of Law.
The decision, which Wilson said was for personal and family reasons, came shortly after the University of Central Florida announced he was a finalist for a presidential position there. Wilson was not hired by UCF.
In a statement Thursday, Akron Board of Trustees Chair Roland Bauer said the board was aware that Wilson “might be included in a different university’s search for a president.”
Thursday morning, the board met with university stakeholders to discuss the qualifications needed for the university’s next interim president.
A permanent replacement for Wilson, who has been in the position for less than two years, will be named following a national search, according to Bauer.
