Test Drive The New PARCC Assessment Questions

If everything goes according to plan, Ohio students in grades 3-8 will start taking new standardized tests in spring 2015.

The new exams have been developed by the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, a.k.a. PARCC.  A total of 18 states, including Ohio, are involved in drafting the new questions.

As the StateImpact team reported previously, the new tests are longer and require more thinking.

There will be fewer multiple choice questions than on the old Ohio Achievement Assessments.  And they’ll be given on a computer in most cases, unless a school lacks the technology.

The idea is that these new tests will align with the Common Core, and better determine if a student is ready for college or a career.

Critics say the new exams are coming too quickly, that no one’s had a chance to adequately test the test yet.

So what kinds of questions are on this test? PARCC recently released a few samples.
