Week Ahead: School Funding, School Safety and Hip-Hop

Ohio Auditor Dave Yost presents the findings of the first part of his investigation into attendance data fraud at Ohio schools at a press conference in October.

Monday: State auditor Dave Yost to release the results of his statewide audit of school data-scrubbing, or altering student records without a lawful reason. Yost's audit of the Columbus school district is still ongoing.

Monday: State Board of Education to meet. On the agenda: Debate about the Board President Debe Terhar posting a graphic showing Adolph Hitler's purported views on gun control on her Facebook page. Also: Discussion of the Third Grade Reading Guarantee, Gov. John Kasich's proposed budget, the search for a new state superintendent of public instruction, and Yost's report on school data-scrubbing.

Monday: Cleveland school and city leaders to explain how they're going to "transform" the Cleveland schools at a Cleveland Connects panel at Ideastream at 6 p.m.

Through Wednesday: The annual eTech educational technology conference to include all kinds of interesting updates on the use of technology in schools. (We'll be there Tuesday.)

Tuesday: First in a series of hearings on school safety to take place starting in the Senate Education Committee. Better identifying and helping people who might commit school shootings will be a focus.

Wednesday: More details on Gov. John Kasich's education funding proposals to be revealed in testimony before House Finance and Appropriations Committee.

Friday-Saturday: Annual conference on hip-hop in education at Ohio State University examines the "wider socio-cultural value of hip hop arts and their use in improving the academic and social successes of youth and marginalized communities." Also includes panel on using hip-hop to teach math and science.
