This year, Gov. John Kasich plans to introduce a new way of funding Ohio schools.
Gongwer Ohio reports that Kasich's plan will move away from the past trend of funding schools based on estimates of the cost of "inputs" such as teacher salaries and operating costs:
"We have spent significant time looking at developing a school funding formula that will efficiently target state resources to those districts with a lesser local capacity to raise revenue to provide (for) education of the students in those districts," [Office of Budget and Management Director Tim Keen] said in an interview.
"We're also going to try to take into account the different types of students that school districts educate, and some of the different challenges that districts have in educating the particular mix of student types that they have."
