It’s Been 45 Years Since the Cuyahoga Caught Fire…for the 13th Time It’s been 45 years since the Cuyahoga River caught fire – for the 13th time. Besides the Cuyahoga, other rivers in industrial cities had burned, too. The Chicago, Buffalo, and Rouge Rivers all had run-ins with fire prior to the Cuyahoga River fire of ’69. That fire wasn’t even the worst in the river’s history. So what is it about the fire of '69 that was such a big deal, and how is the river doing today?
