The so-called supercommittee had no super powers to combat toxic partisanship in Congress's effort to cut the deficit. So now what? Democrats and Republicans couldn't agree on cuts or taxes. So will steep reductions to defense and domestic spending kick in as threatened or can Congress agree on a way to avert that next year?
