We are mothers of soldiers. We are currently collecting true stories about what it means to be a mother of a soldier today. We have sent our sons to war. Sergeant Stan Mayer, (tour in Iraq—January 2005 to October 2005) is currently working with the Marine Liaison unit at Bethesda Hospital. My son, Sergeant Joe Reinart, (active duty/tour in Iraq—December 2003 to February 2005) has completed six years in the Army National Guard. Mary Anne and I are authors and educators. Working Title: Love You, More Than You Know: Thoughts from Ohio Mothers Sending their Sons and Daughters to War
We are asking you to tell us what it means to be a mother of a soldier. We want you to bear witness to the courage and resolve it takes to send a soldier to war.
• How did you make it through the journey of having your soldier deployed?
• Did your everyday routines change?
• How did you cope?
• How has this experience changed you?
• Your story should tell of your sacrifices, of your support, and tell how you helped keep your soldier connected to home.
Please include:
-Branch of service
-Dates of deployment
-Photo of you and your soldier (Photos are to be formatted as JPEGS)
-Include in your story copies of emails/letters/recollections of phone calls from your soldier during deployment showing a connection to family/home
-Current status of your soldier
-Please submit your titled story (800-2000 words) in a Microsoft word document.
-All pages need your name, address, phone number, and email address as a header on each page.
-Please include a short bio (150 words).
