Use of Deadly Force

Over the last two weeks, citizens across Northeast Ohio have become engaged in a vociferous debate over the use of deadly force by peace officers. One shooting in Akron claimed the life of a father of 12. Another in Cleveland left a suspected bank robber dead in his escape vehicle. Columnists and AM talk hosts have weighed in (here, here and here). This isn't about a single officer or a single police department. The question is what constitutes an appropriate use of force? And how are peace officers trained to make that split second decision whether or not to pull the trigger?
