Republican incumbent Jon Husted is trying for his second term as Secretary of State. He was first elected to the Ohio House in 2000, and served as the Speaker of the House for four years before he was term limited. He then ran and won a seat in the state Senate, where he spent two years of one four year term before becoming the second former Speaker of the House to be elected Secretary of State.

Democrat Nina Turner is challenging Husted. She served with Husted in the Senate after being appointed to her seat in 2008. After winning her first full term in 2010, she was chosen as minority whip. Before coming to Columbus, she served in the administration of Cleveland Mayor Mike White and then was elected to Cleveland City Council in 2005.

Next week – the major party candidates for Auditor, David Yost and John Patrick Carney. We plan to conclude our series the following week with the major party candidates for treasurer, Josh Mandel and Connie Pillich, and hope to feature interviews with the major party candidates for governor and highlights of any debates they may do. As of right now, no debates between John Kasich and Ed FitzGerald are scheduled.
