A Push Toward More Wind Energy, And Looking Into The ALICE Population
The state’s largest teachers union is urging tough scrutiny on a change of status for the Electronic Classroom of Tomorrow. Democratic Former U.S. Congressman Dennis Kucinich will be starring in ads and on the campaign trail in support of the drug price ballot question known as Issue 2. The number of abortions in Ohio last year went down for the fourth year in a row. There were 20,672 abortions in Ohio last year…..304 fewer than the year before.
The wind energy industry says it can’t create new projects in Ohio, claiming they’re essentially handcuffed by stiff regulations over where turbines can be placed. As Statehouse correspondent Andy Chow reports, a new proposal would loosen those restrictions.
There’s a mostly overlooked population of working poor people in Ohio - child care workers, home health aides, servers, store clerks or office assistants. This is potentially 40% of the state's population, known by the United Way as "ALICE" - Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. A panel at the Columbus Metropolitan Club talked about the problems ALICE households face of having too much month left at the end of the money - Dayton resident Jo’el Thomas-Jones, Akron Deputy Mayor James Hardy and Steve Hollon, the President of the Ohio United Way.
Flags are flying at half-staff at the Ohio Statehouse following Sunday night’s shooting at a Las Vegas music festival that killed 59 people and injured 500 others.Authorities have discovered the gunman used about four dozen guns, some of them high powered rifles that quickly sprayed the crowd with bullets. This tragedy has, once again, raised more questions than answers. And it has rekindled the debate over gun control and about bills that are pending at the Statehouse.

David Leland (D-Columbus), one of the members of the Board of Directors of the Cleveland Indians' AAA franchise the Columbus Clippers, has sponsored legislation to designate every October 7as Moses Fleetwood Walker day in Ohio.
