Whatever happened to the mighty manufacturing machine that put goods in stores, cars on the road, and new homes in the neighborhood, all while filling the pockets of an emerging middle class? The short answer is: it’s still humming. Ohio is the third leading manufacturing state in the country, the seventh leading exporter of goods, and it’s one of the few industries in Northeast Ohio that’s hiring. Only two U.S. states make more things than Ohio, and the Cleveland area is among the fastest-growing manufacturing regions in the nation. The death of manufacturing has been greatly exaggerated.
