High Court Rules on Gay Marriage, Voting Rights Act

The U.S. Supreme Court was busy, and divided, this week, handing two narrow victories to advocates of gay marriage and, in another ruling, overturning parts of the landmark Voting Rights Act. The court effectively struck down the federal Defense of Marriage Act and dealt a blow to California's gay marriage ban. And it ordered Congress to re-do parts of the Civil Rights-era voter law.
