What’s The Word?

Three women explore works by Muslim women writers that break down stereotypes, raise questions, and explore contradictions between their experience and the traditional doctrines of the cultures in which they live. On this program, Egyptian-born Leila Ahmed talks about and reads from her 1999 memoir, "A Border Passage"; Elisabeth Mudimbe-Boyi discusses Algerian writer Assia Djebar's novel "Far from Medina"; and Farzaneh Milani explores the work of Iranian poet Forugh Farrokhzad.
