The Blues & Beyond: Robert Lockwood Jr.

This hour of The Blues & Beyond, featured a few songs from Robert Jr. Lockwood's album Steady Rollin' Man a 1970 recording that has been recently reissued by Delmark Records. It was Lockwood's first full album as a band leader. Robert Lockwood, who died at the age of 91, learned the blues from none other than Robert Johnson. Lockwood did a number of Johnson's songs throughout his career, but his own style owed as much to jazz as to Johnson's delta blues. Also on this show was music from an album by Somi, a singer born of African parents who grew up in the United States, -- and a track from pianist Christopher O'Riley's album Second Grace: The Music Of Nick Drake, which opens a new dimension in the growing posthumous recognition of singer, songwriter, & guitarist Nick Drake.
