Radio Lab: Diagnosis

When Emmanuel was growing up in the Bronx, everyone in his family knew something wasn't quite right. His parents schooled him at home, apart from other kids, and he spent his childhood feeling different and alone. Then, a visit to a doctor 18 years later changes everything. This show explored what happens when a problem is diagnosed. What counts as wrong in the first place? What does it feel like to deliver news that no one wants to hear? And, how do people react when they finally find a label for what they have or what they are?
