While we were out: 2016 Summer Olympics

Fortunately, though, this summer also gave us many reasons to celebrate! The Summer Olympics were held in Rio – and the U.S. came out on top! The U.S. won a total of 121 medals, including 46 gold medals – far out-pacing runners-up Great Britain and China. Breakout stars included 4-time gold-winning gymnast Simone Biles – and swimmer Michael Phelps, who dreamed of winning a gold medal as a 15 year-old upstart – [CLIP] – now has 22 of them, enough individual victories to break a 2,000 year-old record set by Leonidas of Rhodes in 156 B.C.
