Northern Lights on Display

Earlier this week people all around the United States looked up and witnessed a colorful backdrop in the sky. This rainbow of color is decribed as the aurora borealis or the northern lights. The bright display occurs when electronically charged particles collide, also known as a solar flare. Scientists say the most recent solar flares, which are basically huge bubbles of gas, were the biggest they've seen in four years.
