Doctors Perform Marathon Surgery

This week, doctors at an Ohio hospital announce they successfully performed the facility's second near-total face transplant on a man who suffered facial trauma following a car accident.

The Cleveland Clinic carried out the nation's first face transplant in 2008.

Twelve surgeons and multiple specialists performed this marathon surgery over a period of 24 hours.

In that story, you heard the term 'organ transplant'.

A transplant is an operation in which an organ or tissue is moved from one location to another.

The U.S. Department of Defense is providing money for surgeries like the one you just heard about, in hopes of later helping soldiers disfigured in battle.
