Disabled Vets Memorial Opens in Washington, D.C.

The American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial is open in Washington, D.C.

It is the first monument on the national mall in our nation's capitol dedicated to severely wounded veterans of all the nation's wars.

President Barack Obama helped dedicate it in a special ceremony Sunday.

The American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial honors those, alive and dead, who were seriously injured while serving in the military. It features walls of granite and glass and a star-shaped fountain with a ceremonial flame. Congress authorized the memorial in 2000. It was signed into law by President Bill Clinton.
