Crew Members Return from International Space Station

Three crew members from the International Space Station are safely back on earth today.

Their Soyuz space capsule landed safely in a remote area of Kazakhstan.

On board were American astronaut Reid Wiseman, German astronaut Alexander Gerst, and Commander Maxim Suraev of Russia.

The crew members' 165 day mission aboard the ISS included several spacewalks and hundreds of scientific experiments.

A key focus for this crew was researching how to manage human health for long duration space travel. NASA hopes to prepare two crew members to spend one year aboard the ISS beginning in 2015.

Three more crew members will begin their missions in space later this month.
