Candidates Take the Stage for the First Democratic Presidential Debate

Presidential hopefuls eye the Democratic nomination, as they step onto the debate stage for the first time. Tuesday night marked the first debate between the candidates hoping to run for president on the Democratic ticket. The Republican contenders have been on stage twice, with a much larger group of candidates vying for a spot on the ballot.

CNN and Facebook hosted this debate, which was held in Las Vegas. Hillary Clinton was center stage for the event, with the other four candidates on either side of her. The candidates were assigned to podiums based on poll numbers since August 1 st, which show the former Secretary of State in the lead.

Prior to the primetime debate, many speculated as to whether Vice President Joe Biden would throw his hat into the ring. They even had a spare podium waiting on stand-by just in case.
