25th Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall

Thousands of people gathered in Berlin, Germany on Sunday for a very special celebration.

It's been 25 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall that separated East and West Berlin.

After Germany was defeated in World War II, the country was divided in two, with West Germany under the watch of the United States and its allies, and East Germany under the control of the Soviet Union.

Within East Germany, the city of Berlin was also divided in half.

Life was much harder in East Berlin, and in 1961, a wall was built to keep people from trying to flee.

On November 9th, 1989, the people on the east started knocking the wall down, marking the beginning of the end of what was called the Cold War.
