2014 Midterm Election Update

Ohio voters re-elected Governor John Kasich for four more years.

Kasich's victory was declared not long after polls closed Tuesday evening. The race had not been a close one, especially following revelations over the summer that Democratic opponent Ed Fitzgerald had driven without a valid license for more than a decade - a fact that did not sit well with many voters.

In his victory speech, the governor said this was "half time for Ohio," mentioning the state's economy several times.

Kasich's fellow Republicans also did well in their races, winning elections for secretary of state, attorney general and state treasurer.

A lot of the focus on this midterm election has been on who would control the Senate. Until now, the Republicans have controlled the house. One half of Congress, while Democrats had a majority in the Senate.
