The nonprofit Feeding America estimates that 18.6 percent of Cuyahoga County residents are “food insecure,’’ meaning they don’t know when or where they’ll get their next meal. Lack of adequate nutrition can lead to chronic diseases such as obesity and diabetes. That in turn, increases Ohio's health care costs. A new report by the Center for Community Solutions says the state could save money if its leveraged its Medicaid program to better connect recipients to food aid. ideastream's Rick Jackson spoke with Loren Anthes, the author of the report, to learn more and why "food pharmacies" might appear in more area hospitals.
