Last December, Cleveland Metroparks Ranger Michael Kort responded to a call about a drive-by shooting at the Emerald Necklace Marina in the Rocky River Reservation. Upon arrival, he discovered that a bullet had hit Angela Altier in the leg and struck a major artery. Ranger Kort used a tourniquet to staunch the bleeding, buying time for a Lakewood EMS unit to get her to the hospital-- saving her leg and her life. Tuesday, Ranger Kort was among 35 paramedics, firefighters and law enforcement officers honored at MetroHealth’s annual Excellence in Emergency Medical Service Awards. ideastream’s Darrielle Snipes spoke with the ranger and the shooting victim about the tense moments that altered both their lives.
