Caregiving: Elderly and Falls

Lots of older folks live in constant fear of falling - and rightfully so, according to the State Department of Aging.

The number of fatal falls among older Ohioans increased more than 165% between 2000 and 2012. Nationwide, falls remain the leading cause of accidental death for those over 65, as well as a major reason elderly patients end up in nursing homes.

As part of our continuing Be Well series on caregiving, ideastream’s Kay Colby takes a closer look at why falls can be so dangerous and what can be done to prevent them.
