Senator George Voinovich

A rebroadcast of Feagler & Friends
Guest: George V. Voinovich, former United States Senator—Voinovich retired at the end of the year, ending a political career that stretched back to the 1960s. A lifelong Clevelander, he served as a Cuyahoga County auditor and commissioner, a member of the Ohio House of Representatives, Mayor of Cleveland, Lt. Governor and Governor; finally 12 years representing Ohio as a moderate voice in the Senate. As Mayor, he led the city of Cleveland out of default in the late 70s. He was one of the most popular Governors in state history, winning re-election with only token opposition.

Voinovich closed out his Senate career with a vote against the final version of the federal health care overhaul and votes in favor of the START treaty with Russia and the repeal of the Pentagon’s don’t-ask-don’t-tell stance on gays and lesbians. Voinovich plans to attend to family matters, splitting time between his Collinwood home and a condo in Florida.

He’ll look back on his career with Mr. Feagler. This program first aired January 7, 2011.
