At any one time, over 100,000 people across the country are waiting for life-saving organ transplants. On average each day, 18 of them die. Every 10 minutes another person is placed on the transplant waiting list. There are simply not enough organs to meet the demand. Over half the people waiting for an organ transplant in Ohio live in Northeast Ohio, but the region falls below the state average when it comes to the number of people registered as organ donors. In mid-January, ideastream will launch multimedia coverage on radio, television and the web focused on organ donation, transplantation and stories about people and families who give life… and others who receive it.
LifeGiving: Transplant Stories is part of a series of multiple media health projects produced by ideastream. Previous topics covered include heart disease, diabetes, obesity, colon cancer, depression, allergies, and oral health.
