Cleveland Orchestra at Gordon Square

As part of The Cleveland Orchestra’s inaugural “At Home” neighborhood residency in Gordon Square on Cleveland’s west side this month, ideastream will be broadcasting portions of the festivities, including an hour long television special, produced by WVIZ/PBS, entitled The Cleveland Orchestra: At Home in Gordon Square on Friday, May 24 at 9:00 PM (the program encores on WVIZ/PBS on Sunday, May 26 at 7:00 PM).

The production was taped live on May 16 as the culmination of the Orchestra’s week-long residency at Gordon Square. The program features The Cleveland Orchestra performing at St. Colman Catholic Church before a standing-room-only audience. The performance marked the first time The Cleveland Orchestra played on the west side of Cleveland since 1980. Assistant Conductor James Feddeck leads the program, which includes Mendelssohn’s Overture: The Hebrides; Chaminade’s Concertino in D major for Flute and Orchestra, with principal flute Joshua Smith; Ravel’s Pavane pour une infante défunte, and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio espagnol.

This program is supported in part by the residents of Cuyahoga County through a grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture and by The Ohio Arts Council which helped fund this program with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans.
