Caregiving

The United States faces what experts are calling a "caregiver crisis," and the baby boom generation sits at the center of it. While boomers are the "caregivers" of today, they will also be the "care recipients" of tomorrow. According to a 2013 report released by AARP, the United States faces an enormous shortage of caregivers for older people in the coming decades - something called the "2030" problem. As the baby-boom generation ages, there will be a dearth of family, friends, and even hired professionals to care for them.

With that in mind, ideastream has dedicated a new multimedia series to exploring the challenges of caregiving. You’ll find all that content here. The series will explore problems encountered by local caregivers who are involved in providing direct hands-on care for family members, as well as issues related to finding and coordinating outside agencies and workers to manage a loved one’s care. This coverage will explore policies and programs poised to offer solutions to the projected shortfall of caregivers, as well as linking Northeast Ohioans to local caregiving resources.
