Derek Hess is one of the most sought-after poster artists in the world - we'll look back at Derek Hess's early career.

Artist Derek Hess
Back in the early 1990's, a music scene developed here in Northeast Ohio and took place every Monday night at one of Cleveland's favorite hot spots for live music: The Euclid Tavern in University Circle. It all started thanks to a young artist named Derek Hess who worked in the Euclid Tavern's kitchen, chopping chicken wings in the basement. However, Derek soon began booking rock bands at the "Euc," and he used his artistic talent to attract his audience. Today, Derek Hess is one of the most sought-after poster artists in the world, and his work is in the permanent collection at the Louvre Museum in Paris. We'll look back at Derek Hess's early career, when Monday nights were rockin' at the "Euc."

The Greater Cleveland Urban Film Festival
In a couple of weeks, The Greater Cleveland Urban Film Festival kicks off their second season at the Shaker Square Cinema. The organization's stated goal is to expose, educate and entertain a diverse audience through the media of film. And that approach seems to be working. Last year, many of the films played to a packed house, and they're hoping for a repeat performance. The person responsible for pulling that off is Donna Dabb, the executive director of the Greater Cleveland Urban Film Festival.

Planner Don Vanderbrook
Planning a large event like the Greater Cleveland Urban Film Festival is no easy task. It takes a lot of planning, organizational skills and creativity. One local person who's been recognized for his role in planning major events at the White House, for celebrities and even royalty, is Don Vanderbrook. He's an internationally-known Flora Designer and 2008 recipient of the Martha Joseph Cleveland Arts Prize. Here's his story from Cleveland Film Festival Alum, Ted Sikora.

Applause America: Artist Danny Scheible
When you look at a roll of masking tape, you might see a handy way to close a box or make straight borders when you paint. When Californian Danny Scheible looks at a roll of that flexible tape, he sees a unique way to make art. In the latest installment of our Applause America series, we find the Sacramento artist sitting with KVIE reporter Rob Stewart in the center of a sprawling metropolis that Mr. Scheible has created entirely out of masking tape!
