ideastream's Education department provides a wide array of professional learning opportunities to thousands of educators in over 200 school districts in an eleven county area in Northeast Ohio.

Technology training services can be tailored to a district’s needs from novice to the scholar and can be provided in the ideastream teaching labs, in your school district, or via Distance Learning.

All sessions held at Idea Center at PlayhouseSquare unless otherwise noted below.

Creating & Editing Videos on Your iPad

Description: Whether you have one iPad or a class set, learn how to enhance instruction by having students create iPad videos in any subject area.  In this session you will participate in the production of three sample videos in the areas of math, science, or English language arts for grades 4-12.   Receive instruction on how to help students create videos that address standards.  Leave with stimulating lesson ideas.  A great session for those who want to transform the way they use their iPad!

Create Your Lesson with Swivl

Description: You and another participant will receive one Swivl and learn how to use it in many ways, especially in flipping your classroom.  The Swivl is a robotic device which will follow the teacher and record video and audio.  This easy to use tool will save you time and effort.  It will help you keep your data organized and secure, while make learning fun and enjoyable.  See how essential it can be in fostering a culture of collaboration.  Find out how to engage support teacher growth especially when it comes to RESA.  Discover this use and many more.  You must bring a tablet or a phone with a camera to the workshop.

Engaging Your Students with Augmented and Virtual Realities

Description: Bring your tablets that have a camera and are enabled to download apps.  Discover how you can entice your students with augmented and virtual realities.  Receive an understanding about VR and AR and what the differences are, as well as explore the possibilities what VR, AR and 360 degrees video offer as a learning tool.  Help students to understand complex and hard-to-understand concepts. Learn about dozens of apps along with some simple manipulatives that will bring science, math and other subject areas to life.  Discover what K-12 students as well as college students are doing with these realities.

Getting Started with MakerSpace & Coding

Description:  Two teachers in grades 4-12 are invited to register as a pair & learn how to supplement their lessons with design and coding.  Each pair of teachers will receive two 3D Pens with Filament, two Worlds of Making…book, one Makey Makey invention kit, and one Arduino Uno R3 Microcontroller. Receive step-by-step information on how to use each device.  See how to easily design lessons. Bring a laptop with a USB port or borrow one of ours.  Come ready to play and learn.  A great workshop for teachers who are serious about integrating MakerSpace and Coding into teaching and learning.

The Google Study Group

Description:  We are looking for dedicated people who want to learn how to become Google Certified Educators.  Through intense study we will take you through necessary coursework to be prepared to take Google exams.* Become recognized for your mastery in Docs, Gmail, Sites, Calendar, Chrome, Search and one elective. 

Session Dates: Saturday, October 21, 2017, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and virtual meetings determined by the facilitator.

Using Drones in Education

Description:  Receive a ‘DBPOWER MJX X400W FPV Drone with Wifi Camera Live’ and learn the rules and regulations about unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), including how to register your device with the FAA.  Discover ways to integrate your drone into teaching and learning; survey a physical education activity, take great aerial shots or video for your art or media arts program, expose students to unreachable wonders of nature near your school building, and much more.  Imagine having a ‘Drone Day’ in which students earn the right to operate the drone to learn the mathematics behind a flight plan. Build vocabulary with aviation and scientific terms.  The possibilities are endless.  You will also easily assemble your drone, receive flight lessons and take it out for test flights at a nearby athletic field (weather permitted) or gymnasium, while enjoying lunch on us.  Limited space.  Register today.

Scratch Jr. for Early Learners

Description: Learning fundamental computer programming skills has never been easier than when using PBS Kids Scratch Jr. With the help of PBS Kids characters, children as young as 5 years old can learn to snap colorful programming blocks together in order to tell stories and express themselves in a digital environment. Creating interactive stories where characters move, talk, dance, jump, and sing opens the door to the endless possibilities available with this creative coding app. When using PBS Kids Scratch Jr., children don’t just learn to code; they code to learn. Participants will explore the PBS Kids Scratch Jr. app, create interactive stories and games, and discuss strategies for classroom integration. Participants are encouraged to bring an iPad or Android based tablet pre-loaded with the PBS Kids Scratch Jr. app, available for free download in the Google Play Store and on iTunes.
