There are 100 statues in Statuary Hall and only 9 of them are of women.  On the list of ten nominees there are three women: Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of Uncle Tom’s Cabin, Harriet Taylor Upton, suffragist and Judith Resnik, astronaut.
National Statuary Hall is for everyone.  Let’s vote for a woman for Statuary Hall. We need to have more than 9 women there.

There are 10 finalists including three exciting ladies such as the writer of “Uncle Tom’s cabin”, an electric engineer and astronaut who died at the Challenger disaster Judith Resnik and Harriet Upton who fought for women’s vote. But all your video seems to reinforce is: heroes can only be men. not in 2010.

I find the clip biased since it only mentioned one candidate for National Statuary Hall. Either the clip should have mentioned no finalists or all ten.  There are only nine women in National Statuary Hall.  Ohio should think more seriously about picking a woman and reducing gender bias.

I tutor a 4th grader.  He informed me that Governor William Allen will be deleted from his place in the U.S. Capitol building.  History has always been written by the victors of battles for power.  If we want to deny history by removing a grand statue of an elected Senator and Ohio governor from the Statuary Hall in Washington D.C. we are in denial.  This idea is a sham.  If we are to change history, then we must delete statues of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and other slave-holding men.  We must delete Andrew Jackson from the $20 bill.  He directed the slaughter of thousands of Indians in from Tennessee to Florida. 

Stop the madness!  Statues must continue to be ELECTED OFFICIALS and not scientists, engineers, athletes.

Why didn’t you mention the two women on the list of ten from northeast Ohio: Challenger Astronaut Judith Resnik (Akron) and Suffraget Harriet Taylor Upton (Ravenna) You only mentioned male candidates. It’s time for a woman’s statue from Ohio to be in National Statuary Hall.  There are only nine female statues in the hall now.  The statues are for future generations to view, especially the multitude of children who visit Washington DC every year.
