Animal Rescuers Rush to the Aid of Sea Birds Injured by Mysterious Algae

Posted Wednesday, October 28, 2009

Featured on Episode 7 of the 2009-2010 season

Animal rescuers rushed to save the lives of hundreds of sea birds on the west coast. Since last week, the Wildlife Center of the North Coast has been inundated with hundreds of rescued seabirds. A mysterious algae foam off-shore is causing the birds to loose their waterproofing, so they end up cold and dying on the beach. Experts with the International Bird rescue Research Center out of northern California came to pick up the birds, loading them first onto a U-Haul, and then, onto a U.S. Coast Guard C-130. The rescue center specializes in treating birds hurt in oil spills. The birds were cleaned up by volunteers.
