Springfield Bog Purchased as First Piece in New Summit County Park

Metroparks Serving Summit County will have a new park to care for soon, thanks to a purchase made by The Trust for Public Land - a national land conservation group with an office in Cleveland - with funds also coming from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and the Clean Ohio Fund. Springfield bog is left over from what was once a large wetland with great biodiversity. More recently, some of this tract of land was used to grow carrots. The bogs include leatherleaf, a knee-high brush that is a potentially threatened species in Ohio, as well as some other rare plants.
