Nobel Prizes Awarded to Thirteen Americans; Obama Wins Prize for Peace

The final Nobel Prize was awarded on Monday and eleven out of the thirteen winners are Americans. Five of the new Nobel laureates are women, the largest number in any single year. The most surprising choice this year was Ppresident Barack Obama as the winner of the Nobel Prize for Peace. The committee said they chose the new President for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. The President said he was surprised and humbled to be selected. Mister Obama is the third U.S. president to win the prize while in office.
