Sixteen-year-old Maria Devito's spring vacation turned serious last week. Maria - a student at Newark Catholic High School - was enjoying the sun by her aunt's pool when an older gentleman staggered and then fell into the water. Maria jumped in and held the man's head up while her aunt called 9-1-1. Seventy six year old Sigfried Schaire, visiting from Germany, had a stroke and is recovering in the hospital. Maria was honored on April fourth by the Margate, Florida Fire Department for her outstanding assistance as a life saver.
