The Columbus Zoo is very happy to announce the birth of an Asian elephant calf. The baby was born on March 27th. The little guy - as yet un-named - stood within fifteen minutes, with some help from his mom. This is the third baby for Phoebe. An endangered species, there are an estimated thirty eight to fifty one thousand Asian elephants living in the wild. Farming, deforestation and conflict with humans pose a constant threat to these beautiful creatures. You can see video updates on Phoebe and her calf on the Columbus Zoo website.
