The first eaglet of 2009 has hatched in Ashtabula County. Volunteers for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources have been observing a nest since early February, and reported that at least one eaglet hatched earlier this month. It takes thirty five days for an eagle to hatch. Thirty years ago, there were only four nesting pairs of bald eagles in Ohio, mostly along the Lake Erie shore. In 2008, 184 eagle pairs produced more than 200 little ones.
