Monday was Barbie's 50th birthday. In honor of reaching this milestone, Barbie's company Mattel is throwing her a big bash at the real Malibu Dream House. Barbie has changed a lot since she was created by Ruth Handler. At first - she was mostly a pretty face. After the feminist movement of the 1960s and 1970s, Barbie became more career focused. There was even a President Barbie! Critics say Barbie places too much emphasis on looks, but she's never lost her glamour. And that's one of the reasons she's so popular. In recent years, Bratz dolls have outsold Barbie - but she's still going strong and is currently making inroads in China!
