Primatologist Jane Goodall spent most of her adult life in Africa studying chimpanzees in the wild and educating the world about their plight. Her life with chimpanzees started more than four decades ago in Tanzania as an assistant to celebrated great ape expert, Louis Leakey. Over the years, she has drawn international attention to the plight of the primates, which today still struggle under the constant threat of poaching and deforestation. With Goodall's global “Roots and Shoots” program, her work has since moved from the jungle to the classroom. And much of that effort is now focused on China and its next generation.
