“Lunacy” Prevails at High School Robotics Competition

Posted Thursday, March 5, 2009

Featured on Episode 22 of the 2008-2009 season

Thousands of high school students gathered at Cleveland State University last weekend, for a game that combines extreme sports with engineering. Fifty nine teams faced off in the FIRST Buckeye Robotics Competition. Student teams - with cool names like Digital Fusion and RamBots - received identical kits of parts six weeks ago. Then they let their imaginations fly. The challenge? To succeed in a game called "lunacy," named for the fortieth anniversary of the first moon landing. In FIRST robotics, students learn what engineering is all about, and gain experience in teamwork, time management and problem solving. College scholarships are awarded to many of the kids who participate - a great reward for a lot of hard work and fun!
